The complete history of Argus Cleaner updates, from the newest to the first release.
v1.5.2 September 17, 2026
- Readable drive type — external USB drives no longer show “UNKNOWN(-1)”: Argus reads how the drive is connected and shows “External drive”, “External hard drive” or “External SSD”, “Removable” for USB sticks and memory cards, “SD card” for a built-in SD reader, or nothing at all rather than a technical code.
v1.5.1 September 17, 2026
- Fixed duplicate video previews — TypeScript code files (.ts extension) are no longer mistaken for videos: Argus now checks the actual content of a .ts, .mts or .m2ts file before classifying it. When a video uses a codec Windows doesn't have (for example iPhone HEVC), the thumbnail says so clearly and offers the official Microsoft Store extension, instead of a plain icon.
- More reliable "probably identical" videos — different clips shot with the same phone (same resolution, nearly identical duration and size) are no longer grouped: Argus now compares the recording date stored in the video and measures durations to the millisecond. As a precaution, no video is pre-checked in this mode anymore: you review, then you choose.
v1.5.0 September 17, 2026
- Duplicate videos — Argus groups identical videos two ways: fast (same duration, resolution and close size, without decoding) or by actual content (comparing frames at three points in the video, which catches even re-encodes and crops). Thumbnail previews and reclaimable space shown before any deletion.
- Duplicate music — finds duplicate tracks by their tags (artist, title, album, duration) that Windows already reads — mp3, flac, m4a, wma, ogg… — without decoding the audio.
- Real previews and built-in playback — true thumbnails for photos and videos, including formats Windows doesn't thumbnail natively (.ts, .mkv…), thanks to the decoder built into Windows (no third-party component, 100% offline). Clicking a thumbnail opens the file in your usual player.
- Game space manager — local detection of Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft and Xbox games: see where space goes, spot games not launched in months, and clear shader caches (rebuilt automatically at the next launch). Argus never uninstalls a game — it shows you.
- App updates (winget) — the list of software with an available update, updated individually or all at once in one click, via the package manager built into Windows.
- Secure erase — overwrite the contents of sensitive files before deletion (the name disappears too), and wipe a drive's free space to make already-deleted files unrecoverable. On SSDs, the app honestly explains that a single pass is enough.
- Windows repair tools — SFC, DISM (image check and repair), WinSxS cleanup, Windows Update and network reset, disk check. Each tool opens in a real elevated Microsoft console: nothing is hidden or replayed by Argus.
- Explorer right-click menu — an "Analyze with Argus" entry on folders, off by default. It is Argus's only deliberate write to the registry (HKCU, no administrator rights); turning it off removes the keys, no trace left.
- Notification tray icon — a permanent presence showing live RAM usage and a "quick clean" of safe caches without opening the window; the app minimizes to the tray instead of closing.
- Reworked Windows optimization — tweaks sorted by risk level (recommended / advanced / not advised), clear On/Off switches, and importable and exportable setting profiles to reproduce a configuration from one PC to another.
v1.4.0 September 16, 2026
- Exportable PC report (PDF / PNG) — a full checkup in one click: machine (OS, CPU, RAM, GPU), storage, disk health, reclaimable space and biggest folders. Perfect to print or hand to a client. An anonymous mode hides the PC name, serial numbers and your username in paths.
- Disk health history — Argus records how each disk's temperature and wear change over time and draws trend lines, with a factual alert as soon as degradation begins (reallocated sectors, high temperature…).
- Granular browser cleanup — for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera, Opera GX and Firefox, choose per profile what you clear: cache, cookies, history, downloads list. Each category shows its size. Your passwords are never touched, and a locked database (browser running) returns a clear error instead of forcing.
- Fixes and robustness — various fixes, hardened operations and stability improvements.
v1.3.0 September 13, 2026
- Much faster deletion and uninstall — parallel batch processing: wiping several GB of duplicates or photos now takes moments instead of minutes.
- Clean shutdown — Argus now exits completely when closed (no more leftover process in the background).
- Fully portable build — with the "argus.portable" file included in the archive, Argus leaves no trace outside its own folder (all data stays in "data" next to the exe).
- Drive letters in Disk Health — each disk now shows its drive letter(s) (D:, F:, J:…), so you can tell at a glance which disk it is — handy when several disks share the same model name.
- Opens the right install folder — the "Open folder" button on some apps (Foxit, PowerToys…) could open "Documents" instead of the install folder. Fixed, with more robust detection of the real folder.
- Remembers its window — Argus restores the size and position of its window from one session to the next.
- Stronger portability — in portable mode, Argus no longer leaves any "com.argus.desktop" trace in AppData.
- Toggles in Debloat — each setting is now a clear On/Off switch (instead of checkboxes), so you can see at a glance what's enabled.
- Hardened stability — cleanup and ghost-space screens fully translated (French, English, Russian); fixed the info panel on accented text; more reliable scan cancellation.
v1.2.0 September 11, 2026
- Reversible quarantine — before deleting anything, send files and folders to a restorable quarantine. A real safety net: nothing is lost until you purge.
- Similar photos — a new tab finds your near-identical photos (bursts, crops, recompressed copies) using a 128-bit visual fingerprint engine, with a sensitivity slider (strict / normal / loose) and a cache for instant re-scans.
- Reclaimable project folders — finds regenerable node_modules, target, .venv, dist, __pycache__… and frees gigabytes, with a guard that never touches your source code.
- Optional scheduled cleanup — Argus clears safe caches weekly or monthly, silently, never touching your personal files.
- Starts without administrator rights — Argus opens in standard mode; advanced features (deep uninstall, system tweaks, SMART health) offer a one-click "Restart as administrator". Safer and less intrusive.
- Expanded debloat — new safe, reversible Windows tweaks (Click to Do, background apps, clock seconds, account notifications…) and cleanup of game shader caches.
- Windows core areas protected — System32, WinSxS and boot files are now hard-blocked against deletion.
- Hardened security — full application audit and tightening of sensitive operations.
- Full Russian encyclopedia — the thousands of "what is this file" entries (ⓘ panel) are now fully translated into Russian.
- Redesigned Debloat tab — clear how-it-works guide, one-click reversible profiles, and every tweak now confirms it actually applied (exact reason shown on failure).
- Fixes — the "Follow Windows" theme now correctly applies dark mode when Windows is dark; similar-photo thumbnails not showing and slow scanning fixed; quarantine display fixes; general robustness and stability improvements.
